BLISSfix Quotables – Empathy

Empathy is being present to what the other person is experiencing, not being stimulated by it or even trying to fix it. When we allow the person before us to simply be… we are offering ourselves in what some have called unconditional love. – Catherine Cadden, our speaker tomorrow night

taken from her book Peaceable Revolution Through Education

In reading Catherine’s book, I’m feeling hope for all the weary teachers, students and parents out there.  Catherine talks about the importance of ‘doubt’… and I interpreted it to mean the importance of ‘questioning the status quo.’  Our school systems aren’t working… our teachers are tired, frustrated, and at a loss, our students are behind, angry, and bored… it’s time for a change I believe this book provides some answers for where we are to go next.  The answer is put compassion and connection to our creativity back into the schools and a love for learning will naturally take place.  It is the vision of Maria Montesorri and Catherine Cadden made it possible in her TEMBA school.  Thank you Catherine for being who you are!

If you know a weary teacher, frustrated parent or child… please share this with them and invite them to our FREE Peace Rising gathering tomorrow night, Jan. 15th 7-9pm, doors open at 6:30pm.

BLISSfix Quotables – topic: people pleasing

“I can’t give you a sure-fire formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure: try to please every the time.”  –  Herbert Bayard Swope

This quote is yet another reason why I’m pumped about learning and practicing Nonviolent Communication.  Kelly Bryson talked about being ‘other directed’ in his book, Don’t Be Nice, Be Real, saying that through our social training, we are taught to be focused on what others want from us all the time.  Bingo!  Ding ding ding ding!  You got your people pleaser right here!

I was so focused on what other people wanted from me, that I had no idea what I wanted myself!  What authentically makes me happy?  What authentically pisses me off?  Am I allowed to be pissed off?  I didn’t think I was.

I’ve gotten better, but 30 years of training doesn’t get undone in one night.  Either way, I’m grateful for the progress I’ve made and I’m eager to learn more!

BLISSfix Quotable

“There is a formula for alchemical manifestations and spiritual mastery.  The catch is that once you find the formula you no longer need it, because you have become the formula in the process of your searching.”

– Richard Bartlett, D.C., N.D  Matrix Energetics: The Science and Art of Transformation
